As anyone who attended Dreamforce 2013 will tell you, Salesforce has big plans for the future. It gave attendees a sneak peek of what it has in store for 2014 with an in-depth look at its deal with Hewlett-Packard, which will support the Salesforce Superpod.
That’s right – Superpod.
It may sound like something out of a science fiction movie, but Salesforce and HP are joining forces to create a dedicated instance of Salesforce within HP’s Converged Infrastructure.
What is known about the Superpod
Although HP and Salesforce were more than happy to provide a teaser of the Superpod at Dreamforce 2013, there still isn’t much known about the actual product. That being said, one thing is for certain – the partnership between HP and Salesforce is sure to make an impact in the cloud industry.
“The salesforce.com and HP partnership is a breakthrough in cloud computing,” said Marc Benioff, chairman and CEO of Salesforce. “The Salesforce Superpod will allow individual customers to have a dedicated instance in the Salesforce multi-tenant cloud, powered by HP’s technology and fully managed within salesforce.com’s world-class data centers.”
How the Superpod benefits both parties
The Superpod will be big for Salesforce in the future. Because Salesforce already has connections to some of the largest companies in the world, the Superpod will give it a prime opportunity to reel in clients who’ve been waiting for new enterprise solutions. For HP, there’s a better chance of increasing profit margins with this partnership in place. HP now has an opportunity to show how multifaceted its hardware can be, and the Superpod can potentially help it reel in more money in the New Year.
“Trends like cloud, mobility and big data are creating a ‘New Style of IT’ and transforming what enterprise customers expect and need from technology,” said Meg Whitman, president and CEO of HP. “I’m excited to have HP and salesforce.com work together to help customers tackle these exciting challenges.”
The first Superpod customer will be HP, which shouldn’t come as a surprise. Together, Whitman and Benioff have unwavering confidence in the Superpod, but only time will tell if it’s worth the hype.
