When you created the LinkedIn page for your asset management firm, did you take a few moments to carefully choose your words? How about your personal profile?
Recently, LinkedIn revealed the most-used word on users’ profiles in 2013 – “responsible.” Also on the list were “strategic,” “innovative” and “creative.”
“Since we last did this study, LinkedIn’s member base grew from 187 million to more than 259 million members worldwide,” Christine Choi wrote for LinkedIn. “Drawing from English-language LinkedIn profiles around the globe, here’s what we found: this year, ‘responsible’ landed solidly at number one. It was used more than twice as often as the number two buzzword, ‘strategic.’”
Some words that were hot on LinkedIn in 2012 that fell off this year include “experimental,” “motivated” and “specialized.” However, “responsible” was considered a buzzword in 2012 and maintained its status in 2013.
This study brings up one key point – LinkedIn users may need to diversify the vocabulary used in their profiles to stand out from the crowd.
Crafting A Winning Profile
Using keywords in your LinkedIn profile is a must. For example, “asset management” should be somewhere on your page – ideally more than once – to ensure that you’re coming up when people conduct searches within your industry. Additionally, the content you post should be keyword-savvy. This will increase the odds of it reaching your target audience.
Keep in mind that a buzzworthy profile isn’t all about the words you use – it’s about how you use the account as well. For instance, you should try your best to keep your profile updated with fresh content daily.
Finally, make time to participate in LinkedIn groups. This will give you an opportunity to connect with people in your industry and potential clients.
If you haven’t revamped your profile in awhile or you simply want to give your company page an edge, take these tips into account. You may start to invest more time and effort into your LinkedIn as you see positive results.
