As our Accountant, Sales & Use Tax, you will assist with keeping Seismic compliant with sales and use tax and other reporting in all states and local jurisdictions.

What you’ll be doing:

Sales & Use Tax

  • Own the end-to-end sales and use tax process from new registrations with taxing authorities for new sales and use tax filings to preparation and timely filing of sales and use tax returns, including amended returns and refund requests, and payment of related tax liabilities
  • Monitor nexus status and filing requirements on an ongoing basis and maintain inventory listing of state registration by legal entity
  • Oversee collection and maintenance of customer exemption certificates
  • Review source data to ensure accuracy and compliance with tax laws
  • Manage sales and use tax audits and respond to tax notices and answer inquiries from tax authorities, vendors, and customers as it relates to sales and use tax
  • Own the VDAs (Voluntary Disclosure Agreements) process
  • Assist with sales tax software implementation and maintenance
  • Assist in various specific sales tax projects which may involve research and compliance in sales tax
  • Stay up to date on tax laws and regulations and perform research to resolve sales tax issues.
  • Other admin activities, such as prepare necessary paperwork for sales tax inquiries, state inquiries and other ongoing departmental projects
  • Review sales and use tax account reconciliations and analyze variances including providing support for annual financial statement audits

General Accounting

  • Perform general ledger account analysis and reconciliations of key accounts as assigned
  • Assist with month end close and various other assigned duties within Orders to Cash team as needed
  • Complete accounting functions in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Participate in the monthly general ledger closing process
  • Responsible for effectively researching, tracking, and resolving accounting problems and discrepancies

What you bring to the team:

  • 3+ years of experience with sales and use tax
  • Ability to prioritize workload and perform multiple tasks under accelerated monthly and quarterly close deadlines, while maintaining quality and accuracy. 
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, while also able to thrive working within a team to expedite completion of critical projects with other functional groups. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products. 
  • Prior experience with sales and use tax in SaaS industry a plus
  • Prior experience in NetSuite is a plus. 
  • Prior experience with Avalara is a plus. 
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) in accounting or related field from four-year college or university is preferred.
